Fleetwood Triathlon 2009
27th September 2009 - Fleetwood Triathlon
Tri Team Wigan had 9 Junior Triathletes and 2 Seniors competing at Fleetwood on a pleasant day with slight sea breezes.
The Swim was in Fleetwood pool on the coast, the bike was up and down the coast road and the run was along the promenade and in the gardens.
Thomas Kneller was a very creditable 3rd place in the youths with Christian Lawless in 8th position.
Heidi Hampson won the girls youth race outright in her first ever triathlon which is an amazing achievement.
In T3 girls Harriet Kneller came in 7th place with Jake Perry 2nd and Rob Wane in 4th place in T3 Boys.
Sophie Myers was in 4th place, missing third by 2 seconds and second place by 11 seconds.
Greta Hampson was in the T1 girls and Jonny Holden was in T1 boy’s races but unfortunately both were disqualified for a short run.
This was not their fault as the marshalling left something to be desired and is something they intend to improve upon for next year.
There was an impressive turn out from the youngsters who came back with Gold Silver and Bronze between them, well done to all who entered for Tri Team Wigan Juniors.
Martin Holden was in the Adult Vet race coming in 31st place overall and 18th in his age group in a time of 1 hour 6.1 minutes.
Fiona Myers in her first Triathlon was in the Adult Vet race and came 173rd overall and 7th in her age group, beating some very seasoned opposition from Bolton. Fiona’s time was 1 hour 21.36 minutes.
This was an excellent event at a new venue thanks to Tim Armitt and his team from St Annes triathlon and I am sure it will improve even more next year. It is an ideal Sprint distance triathlon for novices being 400m/20k/5k and almost totally flat.
